The 11-storey concrete frame building located at 385 Queen Street was constructed mid-1980s. It houses educational facilities, office space and carparking. The building was identified as <34% NBS, primarily due to the hollowcore floor, floor diaphragm and foundations.
Miyamoto provided a strengthening solution to 70%NBS. By analysing the diaphragm, the %NBS rating was found to be greatly improved by including tie elements which were missing or inadequate from the original design. Through interaction with our internal Geotechnical team and non-linear pushover analysis, the main lateral resisting system of the building was shown to be adequate for the strengthening target once the diaphragm issues were resolved.
